Hong Kong-based actor Hugo Ng and his wife, former TVB star Lily Chung, have opened a kopitiam in Kuala Lumpur recently, Oriental Daily reported.

The coffee shop, named 9 Kopitiam, is located at EkoCheras Mall.

According to the publication, Ng and his wife opened the shop in hopes of sharing their love of Malaysian food with others.

Hoping to expand their brand across South-East Asia as investors and ambassadors of the kopitiam, the couple said they are planning on opening a branch in Hong Kong and Singapore.

During an event to celebrate the opening of his shop, Ng – who was born in Singapore – mentioned that he and his wife would drop by the kopitiam occasionally to greet customers.

The 63-year-old actor was all smiles as he spoke about his love for Malaysian food. He even said in a Malaysian accent, “Semua (Everything) is delicious!”

Meanwhile, Chung said that Malaysian cuisines have always had a special place in her heart.

“I consider myself to be a Malaysian. My parents are actually Sabahan, but we later emmigrated to Hong Kong, where I grew up,” the 54-year-old added.

It is understood that Ng and Chung have long been regular visitors of Malaysia.

In 2019, China Press reported that the couple rented a 4,000 sq ft condominium unit overlooking the sea in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Ng shared then that his wife loved eating nasi lemak and roti canai for breakfast and dinner whereas he preferred half-boiled eggs with toast and kopi-O.
