Riding into history: Lim waving from the rickshaw being pulled by the school head prefect during the farewell ceremony at Methodist Boys’ School in Jalan Air Itam, Penang.
TEACHER Lim Bok Seng, 60, took a ride on the same rickshaw used in an international drama series on his last day in office.
The rickshaw was pulled by the school head prefect for about 100m during a retirement ceremony for Lim.
The two-wheeled cart was a borrowed prop from UK television series Indian Summers which is filming in Penang.
Lim, who had spent 28 years at Methodist Boys School in Jalan Air Itam, also received gifts from 16 Form Six students.
“Although I’m no longer a teacher, the spirit of teaching will always be with me.
“I didn’t expect the school to organise such a grand ceremony for me.
“This is usually for headmasters when they retire,” said the father of four.
He had received Excellent Service Awards from the Education Ministry in 1996, 2002, 2008 and 2014 in his 35-year career.
School principal Lau Chong Beng said the rickshaw had a novelty value to it.
“We borrowed it from the production team who is filming at the Suffolk House near our school,” he said.
