A HEATED argument took place at a three-storey semi-detached housing project in Batu Ferringhi, Penang, after its joint management body (JMB) wanted to take over the management authority from the developer.
A verbal exchange of words ensued between the JMB and the security personnel hired by the developer after the JMB wanted to replace them with their own security guards.
The JMB chairman Choo Cheng Seong, 56, said the JMB was established on Nov 17 this year and the Commissioner of Building (COB) issued a certificate recognising it on Nov 19.
“The developer should hand over the management to us since the certificates of occupancy had been obtained in 2011.
“It has already been more than a year,” he said.
“Under the sale and purchase agreement, buyers are not allowed to build fencing and gates. Hence, we rely a lot on the security guards.
“However, the security is not good,” he claimed when met at the housing area yesterday.
Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik, who was present at the scene, said the JMB had issued a notice on Nov 25 to the developer to inform them about their taking over of the management by Dec 1.
Also present were a Penang Municipal Council COB officer and three policemen.
A police report was made before the argument took place and another police report was also lodged against the security guards hired by the developers for trespassing.
Choo said a discussion with the developer and the JMB would take place today to resolve the issue.
The developer could not be reached for comment.
