KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating allegations that associates of an assemblyman had raped a woman at a hotel in Sri Hartamas here in December last year.
The assemblyman is also a senior aide to a minister.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim confirmed that the report was lodged in December last year.
"We have arrested a few individuals in connection with the case. We are trying our best to complete the investigation and refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor," he said.
According to the police report, the 33-year-old victim alleged that the assemblyman had invited her to celebrate his birthday on Dec 4, along with his close associates and two other women.
After dinner, the woman claimed that they went to a karaoke outlet, where she got drunk.
A friend of the victim also claimed that another man joined the group in the room.
The victim claimed she remembered the assemblyman helping her to walk after the karaoke session.
Her last memory of the night before losing consciousness was the face of one of the assemblyman's associates on top of her.
According to the police report, the woman woke up around 4.15am on Dec 5 at a hotel alone and realised she was naked.
She also found a used condom inside the bathroom but she could not be sure which one of the assemblyman's associates had allegedly raped her.
The woman then said she collected the items found in the hotel room to be used as evidence.
