Heavy rain causes severe flash floods in several parts of Melaka


MELAKA: Flash floods have forced evacuations in the state following an incessant downpour since early Monday morning (May 17).

The worst-hit area is Bukit Beruang Utama, with several residents evacuated.

The other affected areas included Ayer Keroh Height, Taman Melawis, Taman Malim Jaya, Sungai Putat, Taman Bukit Melaka, Taman Seri Jati Six, Pulau Nibong, Angkasa Nuri, Taman Saujana Section Three, Kg Bukit Tambun, Durian Tunggal, Taman Merak Mas, Taman Merbok, Taman Muzafar Shah, Bukit Katil Damai and Taman Ara Permai.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department said six people were rescued at Kampung Bukit Balai after flood waters reached a critical level.

Rescue work is ongoing at Taman Bukit Rambai Indah.

Villagers from KM16 Kampung Padang Keladi in Durian Tunggal also reported that many of their belongings were damaged in the floods.
