Cops detain civil servant who supported Israeli aggression in video – and tested positive for drugs

MELAKA: A 31-year-old civil servant landed in trouble after uploading a video in support of Israel's airstrikes on Gaza.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the man was summoned to the Melaka Tengah police station on Tuesday (May 18), after police received a report at 11.13am the same day.

"A urine test was conducted on the man when he was at the police station and he tested positive (for drugs)," he said on Wednesday (May 19).

ACP Afzanizar said the man was remanded for two days to assist in investigations under Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said police also confiscated a smartphone from the man to facilitate investigations under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code for statements bringing about public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 for sharing offensive or menacing content.

ACP Afzanizar said the man had uploaded a 59-second video on the TikTok app explicitly supporting Israel.

He said the video touched on religious sensitivities.

"Police will (act against) anyone misusing social media to slight the feelings of any ethnic group or faith," he added.
