Nine-year-old boy drowns in monsoon drain, another still missing


Rescuers searching for a young victim who is feared drown at Kampung Gelam.

MELAKA: Rescuers discovered the body of a nine-year-old while another child is feared drowned at a flooded monsoon drain in Kampung Gelam, Tanjung Kling here.

The victim was identified as Muhammad Fakhrullah Rozami and was found lifeless by villagers at about 8pm on Tuesday (May 18).

The victim together with his twin brother and a friend had earlier gone to the monsoon drain for recreational activities before two of them fell and were swept by the strong undercurrent.

The victim's sibling then returned home to inform his parents about the incident.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department's Operations chief Zulkhairani Ramli said the distress call was received at about 8.45pm on the same day.

He said health officers at the site confirmed that Fakhrullah had died upon examination.

Zulkhairani added that the search and rescue operation for the other victim is being continued on Wednesday (May 19).
